Bauchklang

Haus des Meeres, 2013

The faint sunlight of this early spring day stimulates Vienna’s street life. On the ground level kids are cheering on the play field, up in the trees birds are twittering and from high on top of the massive flak tower comes a deep droning. Whoa! It’s Austria’s biggest vocal groove project resonating over the city! On the observation deck Bauchklang, the five-piece combo that produces the finest blend out of beatboxing, mouthpercussion and vocal sounds, are playing “Lagu”. Hard to believe that the band performs this heavily booming club track with the sheer power of their voice, their belly and midriff. Now that’s a buzz in the morning air! For the performance of “Letter To Me”, another track from the newly released album “Akusmatik”, Bauchklang step inside Haus des Meeres and literally “step into a new world” as the song indicates. In the habitat of sharks, sea turtles and morays they go for an exclusive acoustic performance. It nearly seems as if Bauchklang are miming the fishes’ mouths and lend their voices to these mute creatures. At the end of the song Andreas turns towards the fishes while his voice gently fades away like water under the eyes of these graceful species.
